Church Project & Fabric Committee

The committee is currently working on a priority project that will improve the flood resilience of the Church and hopefully limit the all too frequent damage that is caused to the building when the river bursts its banks. We have worked with our Church Architect to obtain quotations for low level re-pointing of the stonework and are engaging with the Environment Agency and an environmental consultant over the possibility of improvements to the existing grass bank which is now proving ineffective.

We are also thinking of some changes to improve the interior facilities of the Church which would include refurbishment of the Chancel, improved heating and lighting, internal toilets, improved kitchen, a meeting space and a more permanent library facility. Projects such as these take time and require considerable consultation and fund raising as well as approval from the Diocesan Advisory Committee as our Church is a Grade I listed building.

In addition to flood resilience measures and internal projects we are also supporting the PCC with church building repairs, most recently minor roof works and an ongoing project to reinstate a section of fallen ceiling plaster in the North Aisle.

We are extremely fortunate to have a Church of such status in our Village and as ideas for improving facilities emerge we will endeavour to update you via the News and Views and Village website and Community Facebook page.

Church Library

St Mary’s Church has a growing selection of books which are available to borrow or buy.

The library is at the west end of the church opposite the main doorway and it is self- service.

The church is normally open during daylight hours.
